The 2022 Cavalier Football season is in full swing! The Tornadoes have already played their first two games of the season and have started with two straight wins. August 19th was the season opening game and home opener in Cavalier vs. Northern Cass. They then traveled to Belcourt on Saturday, August 27th for their second game. Each of the first two contests were 11-man games as there were some scheduling difficulties in finding 9-man teams to play in non-conference games.
Despite playing up a division, the Tornadoes won 42-6 against Northern Cass, an 11-B team. Sterling Enerson was 9/14 passing for 154 yards and 3 touchdown passes. :Breckon Thorpe was 1/1 passing with a touchdown as well. Zack Anderson and Adam Ratchenski each scored two touchdowns receiving in the game. Jake Steele added a touchdown on the ground and Landon Carter capped the scoring with a 44 yard punt return for a touchdown. The defense played tremendous allowing just six points. They gave up 93 yards passing, but held the Northern Cass offense to -51 yards rushing on the night.
The defense picked up where it left off when they played Turtle Mountain Community High School this past weekend in Belcourt. The Braves passed for just 6 yards in the contest while being held to -16 yards rushing. The defense pitched a shutout in the 46-0 win. Jake Steele and Landon Carter each scored a pair of rushing touchdowns in the contest. Logan Werner was electric on special teams. He returned three punts for 100 yards including a 51 yard touchdown return and a 47 yard touchdown return! Sterling Enerson was the leading passer going 3/9 for 50 yards. Talan Devine caught 2 of the passes for 30 yards while Jacob Steele had the other reception for 20 yards.
The Tornadoes will play the remainder of their schedule against 9-man teams. Their next action comes on Friday night as they travel to play New Rockford-Sheyenne in a non-conference game. Cavalier will be back at home in two weeks as they host Nelson County on September 9 at 7:00pm.
