Intro to ag students had a busy field trip day. As a follow up to our meat science unit, students visited the Hugo's meat department in Grafton. Students were given insight into what products the store carries and were able to get in more cutting practice! Later, students visited True North as part of our precision ag unit. Students learned about related career paths, various technologies, and even got to try one out by driving a tractor! More photos and videos in the comments.

A day late...but if you didn't celebrate Pi Day (3.14) yesterday, consider celebrating this important number today! Jemma Watson is our 4th Million Word MS reader for the 23-24 school year. This girl makes my job so easy as she completely manages her own reading journey, and she has been trying out a lot of new genres and authors this year. It probably helps that her mom is an avid reader as well. Congrats to Jemma and her family for adding this milestone to the family bookshelf.

Intro to Ag students brought their meat science knowledge to the 5th grade students this week. The high schoolers prepared lesson plans and then took the lead for a class period as they carried them out. Topics included beef wholesale and retail cuts, degrees of doneness and sanitary handling, and beef byproducts.

THREE it shall be! Seventh grader Jaxon Murray marks our THIRD Million Word reader in Middle School this year! His two year reading journey with me has been one for the memory books. He LOVES to read fantasy, but his overall transformation into a lifelong reader has been so fun to be a part of! I'm so lucky, and this is my favorite part of teaching by far. Well done, Jaxon!

The 5th Grade classes hosted their alphahawk (hero) museum today. The project included writing an essay describing how their alphahawks show our school virtues, recording their essay, creating a poster that represents their alphahawk, and modeling a costume that best represents their alphahawk. Thank you to all who came out to support these students' work by visiting them today! More photos on the Cavalier PTO facebook page.

The 5th Grade classes will be hosting their Alphahawk Museum Tuesday, March 5th, 10-11:30am in the school gym. This event is open to families as well as the public. An alphahawk is a hero the student looks up to who shows all the virtues taught at Cavalier Elementary School. The students will be dressed up as their alphahawk (hero) and visitors may walk around and view the students and their posters. Visitors will also be able to listen to students' recorded speeches describing why the person they look up to is their alphahawk. This event mimics a wax museum, so the students are supposed to be standing as statues while visitors come around and learn about the alphahawks. We hope to see you there!
