To kick off our novel study of Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen, 5th graders attended a survival class at Icelandic State Park. Students discussed different survival pack items, practiced starting a fire, and built make-shift shelters using limited materials. Students will be able to relate to the main character of Hatchet better as they received a small taste of the challenges he experiences in the book.

Breast Cancer tornado shirts have arrived. If you selected yours to be sent to your home they are out for delivery. If you chose to have yours sent to the school, they are in the office. If you have a student in high schoool, I gave them your t shirts, so please ask them. Student council appreciates all of the support. This fundraiser would not have been possible without the support of you all.

Mrs. Hay's second graders learned about the states of matter. Did you know that by shaking whipping cream to make your own butter you find all three states: liquid, gas, and solid? Ask them what's better homemade butter on homemade bread, or doing all the shaking.
